It was a windy summer day. Logan had just returned from one of his solo adventures. He was wearing dark blue jeans, a navy T-shirt to match and a black leather jacket with brown stripes (X1). After parking his motorcycle in the hanger, Logan headed up to the roof. He was missing the incredible view from the top of the X-Mansion and besides, he needed some time to relax after all the usual trouble he ran into on the road. After a few moments alone enjoying the heavy winds and cloudy weather, Logan heard footsteps coming up the stairs. "Guess I'm not the only one in this place who needs some quiet" He said to himself, waiting to see who the unwanted company was.

She slowly climbed up the steps to the roof. She had a bad day, and usually the view from the roof could lift her from the sadness. She wiped a few tears away from her eyes, sniffling a bit. Everything seemed to pile up today. Just one thing after another seemed to go wrong. She couldn't take it anymore. If she didn't have Kitty as a friend, she may have thought about leaving the institute for good.
She opened the door to the roof and looked up, noticing that someone was already up there. "Oh, I'm sorry. I'll come back later" she said as she turned around to go back down the stairs.

Wanting to be alone with his thoughts, Logan was about to let the young girl leave, but he sensed something was wrong.
"Hold on there kid" he said while still looking out at the trees that because of the strong winds, were wildly swaying from side to side. "Now I'm sure there's enough room here for both of us up here".

She stopped as he spoke. She turned around with a few tears rolling down her face. "I'm sure you don't want to be up here with a crying teenage girl though" she saidm sniffling at the end. She was just so overwhelmed, and of course, a little homesick. Magma wiped away the tears from her cheeks. She knew of Wolverine, but had never actually met him. Everyone talked about him, how he had a rough exterior and was quite blunt at times, but Magma didn't see it. If he was blunt, he wouldn't have offered to share the roof.
She looked at him. He was quite short for an adult male, but still taller than her. "I'm Amara, by the way" she said, sniffling once again.

Wolverine hadn't ever seen Amara before then, but she was obviously a mutant. And he knew how hard it could be, not being able to be with your family because of a so called gift you didn't ask for. Being thrust into a life you didn't expect and could never prepare for. "I don't really mind, this whole mutant deal is probably new to you. Am I right?" he turned to face Magma before continuing "I know this place takes a bit of getting used to... I'm Logan".

Amara nodded when he asked her if she was new to being a mutant. She hadn't had her powers long. She walked further onto the roof, her tears subsiding a little. "It's just so hard, and most people hate us for no reason. Why? I can understand if someone they knew or cared about was killed by a mutant, but the general public who have never encountered a mutant? It angers me!" she siad, clenching her fists, yet tears still falling down her face.
The ground started to rumble. "Oh!" she said, trying to calm herself back down. The rumbling subsided. "Sorry about that!" she said apologetically.

Although he didn't show it at all, Logan was surprised at the amount of power the teen had. Just a slight loss of control and she had the ground beneath their feet shaking as if it, itself was enraged. "It isn't so much on the shoulders of the public" He spoke, trying to explain the situation in a way that would make sense to Amara. " After a while we all become the same to them, abominations. A curse. But it's not their fault. Ya see the thing is, most of the people out there , they can't help but to go by what they see on the news or what they here from the government. And it doesn't help that some mutants, whether misunderstood or by choice, feed those views. But that's why you need to be here."

Amara had never thought of it like that. They were scared. Scared for their safety and lives. "That makes sense" she said. Although, it still doesn't mean they can act they way they do, she thought to herself. All of the tears on her face subsided, and she was left there with quite a moist face. "How long have you been back for? And how long will you be staying?" she said, looking at Wolverine.
She knew he liked to go off on his own all the time, even with missions. For one thing, she wouldn't like to go by herself on a mission. Even just a single other person would make it so much better. The pressure would be immense if she had to do one by herself, especially if it was a crucial mission for the team's success.

"I've been back for a few days now.." He said, knowing that he hadn't planned on anyone finding out that he was back at the mansion. Though, it wasn't crucial that he remained unseen. Logan wasn't sure why she asked how long he would be staying. Truth is he didn't know the answer to that himself, most of the time he didn't plan on leaving, he just did so when he felt like it. "I guess for as long as I'm needed here."

Amara stared at Wolverine unintentionally. She had always wondered about his metal claws. She managed to turn her gaze back out to the open skies and the view of the mansion grounds. She folded her arms across her chest and leaned against the barrier at the edge of the roof. She liked that there was a high barrier. It reached all the way to her chest. She knew she would always be safe from falling up here.

Logan noticed Amara's stare, he noticed her scent slightly change and he noticed how she looked away before she'd thought he'd noticed. "She's curious.." He thought to himself, as many others were before. After all, he did have metal bones and claws. Not exactly normal, even for a mutant. He grunted slightly, sitting on the ledge and looking off into the other direction. He waited for more questions to come, as he knew they would.

She couldn't quite hold in her curiosity anymore. "Does it hurt? I mean, when they come out?" Amara asked, rubbing her fingers over the gaps between her knuckles. She would hate for it to hurt. She wouldn't use them as much... probably. "Why are they metal? Like, I mean, no-one skeleton is made out of metal, not even Magneto" she said. She had remembered when the Professor had told her this.
"I'm sorry for all the questions" she said apologetically. "I'm sure you must get it all the time!".

"It's alright Kid, I've been getting questions like those for as long as I can remember" He said, assuring Magma that it was ok to be curious. Logan then lifted his arm and placed it across his chest, clenching his fist and extracted his claws. "Just like the rest of my skeleton, these used to be made only of bone. I know there was an experiment, but who did it, and why... I've got no clear memory a' that" He stopped, looking at his claws. "And as for the pain..." Logan retracted his claws while speaking "There's no opening for my claws. But before my hands bleed, I heal".

Magma just stood there, listening to him explain about his powers. It was uite fascinating to her. She stepped forward to get a better look. "Is there any scarring? Like, your powers may cover that up, but I would think there are scars between your knuckles" she said, still stepping forward, rubbing her fingers over the skin between her knuckles.

Logan reached out his hand so Amara could get a better look. "No scars, over the years I've come to heal faster. A flesh wound like that takes almost no time at all." He said, looking at his other hand.
